ChatGPT and Gemini both hit 1 billion users

Google's Gemini has reached 1 billion monthly users, making it the company's fastest-growing product ever. ChatGPT quietly hit the same milestone a few weeks earlier. 63% of Gemini users are talking to it via voice and it generates over 150 million images daily.

Anthropic will watermark Claude's text and image output

Anthropic has pledged to embed invisible watermarks in Claude-generated text and attach signed provenance metadata to images, partly to comply with EU AI transparency rules. The watermarks are machine-readable and will extend to older models too.

OpenAI starts testing ads inside ChatGPT

OpenAI is running its first ad experiments in ChatGPT to help fund free-tier access. The company says ads will be clearly labelled, won't influence answers and will come with privacy protections and user controls.
